Dichloroacetate (DCA) has been used for decades in the treatment of metabolic acidosis because it blocks the production of lactic acid. In the past decade, it has been utilized as a metabolic treatment of cancer. Cancer cells produce large amounts of lactic acid. DCA is able to shift the metabolism of cancer cells and potentially thereby change their behavior and even their identity back to normal cells. Think of DCA in the treatment of all types of cancer, but especially cancers of the neurological system such as brain cancer, and also squamous cell carcinomas.
